Empowering students to be informed participants regarding options in their post-schooling pathway.
Welcome to the Senior Phase of Learning, supporting Years 10, 11 & 12.
It is the goal of senior education at Deception Bay SHS that all students leave with their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and clearly articulated pathway options with the knowledge of how to access these. We have a very proud record of supporting our students to succeed with 100% QCE attainment since 2013.
Supporting the school value of Aspiration, we work with students to engage with a diverse senior curriculum, all of which promotes inclusion and allow students to prepare for life after high school. We offer a variety of pathway options which ensures individual student's goals and aspirations are catered for including:
Academic Pathway – students aiming for university studies as their next step after high school studies as they work to gain an ATAR. Supporting this we offer a range of General subject options, with electives being delivered in the Compression model (Units 1 – 4 of the subject delivered within the calendar year). All students are supported in completing a Certificate III offering to support employment while studying and an extra pathway to use for university entry.
Tertiary Pathway – supporting students who are considering tertiary studies to ensure they have the ability to apply for TAFE or university pathway engagement after Year 12. This pathway supports students engaging in a range of subject types, dependent upon their individual post-schooling pathway. All students are supported in completing a minimum of one Certificate III offering to support employment while studying and an extra pathway to use for university entry.
This option is encouraged for students aiming for school-based apprenticeships/ traineeships or trade-based employment after school.
Students on this pathway will be considered for University Early Offer Programs, provided they meet university pre requisites and meet Green Student of Good Standing expectations.
Work Ready Pathway – supporting students who are aiming for employment after school. This pathway supports students engaging in a range of subjects that support the development of skills and qualifications directly related to the employment field after school, alongside subjects that support the development of soft skills that employers are seeking (such as communication skills and team work skills).
All certificate courses are on our scope of registration and offered within our timetable, allowing the school to offer these courses through the direction of our own teachers and trainers, at minimal cost to students.
Our senior students each have a dedicated GROW coach to support them with termly meetings to review their post-schooling goals and support their transition into their next step.
Students are able to track their own progress towards attaining their QCE via the myQCE website.
