At Deception Bay State High School, we are proud to offer the QUEST Program, a selective extension initiative designed to empower high-achieving and high-potential students to thrive academically, socially, and personally. Through rich and challenging learning experiences, QUEST inspires students to think deeply, create boldly, and grow beyond expectations.
What is QUEST?
QUEST is more than just an academic program—it’s a journey of discovery and growth. Built on the principles of Belonging, Integrity, Persistence, and Aspiration, QUEST provides capable students with opportunities to explore their full potential in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities.
Our vision is to ignite curiosity and confidence in every learner, nurturing future-ready thinkers who are driven by knowledge, imagination, and purpose. Through QUEST, students are not only stretched academically but also encouraged to develop as critical thinkers, collaborators, and contributors to the world.
QUEST is tailored for students who demonstrate academic excellence or high potential in core subjects. Selection is based on academic performance, behaviour, effort data, and teacher recommendations.
Students wishing to join QUEST in Year 7 must complete an application process.
Other Year Levels: Students showing academic promise but not initially selected may be placed on a waiting list for future opportunities.
What Makes QUEST Unique?
The QUEST Program stands out because it is:
Grounded in Deep Learning: We use innovative teaching methods such as direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and blended learning.
Focused on 21st-Century Skills: Students develop critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, citizenship, and character—skills essential for success in the modern world.
Enriched with Opportunities: From excursions and incursions to partnerships with experts, industry leaders, and the community, QUEST offers a wealth of experiences to broaden students’ horizons.
Enrichment Opportunities
To help students develop their 21st-century skills, the QUEST Program offers a variety of enrichment activities. Each QUEST student is expected to participate in at least three enrichment opportunities per year, including one ongoing commitment. These activities include:
Ongoing Commitments: Drama troupe, Voices of the Bay (vocal group), Junior Dance Troupe, Instrumental Music Bands/Ensembles, Volleyball Development Program, STEM Club, and more.
One-Off Opportunities: Australian Geography Competition, STEMfest, Titration Competition, Australian Mathematics Competition, History Association Challenge, and Regional/State Sports events.
These experiences are designed to inspire students, build their confidence, and connect them with real-world contexts and challenges.
