Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) at Deception Bay State High School is:

  • A defined set of positively stated behaviour expectations.

At Deception Bay State High School, we have four rules:  that are underpinned by our school values.

  • Behaviour expectations that are systematically taught across the school and clearly articulated.

Each fortnight we focus on a rule or value, and students do lesson activities to unpack what these rules or values are. The intention is that all students understand how to behave appropriately and are familiar with the common language on the posters.

  • A consistent system for rewarding behaviours.

Junior students are rewarded through the vivo system. They are awarded points by their teachers for behaviour, effort, wearing uniform, attendance and positive contributions. Students are to log into their vivo account to track their points and to redeem the points for prizes in the school based vivo shop.

At the end of each semester, junior students with high levels of behaviour and sufficient vivo points are invited to participate in PBL Rewards Day. They have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities.

Each year level has rewards and award systems to recognise Students of the Week or Students of the Month. We value high attendance, and award students for 95-100% attendance each term.

  • A clear system for dealing with a reporting specific behaviour violations.

Our school Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students (under the Policies tab) outlines the support that students receive. This ranges from universal rules and values for all, to targeted programs and support for some students, and intensive programs and support for a small number of students who struggle with the expectations of school.

The Responsible Behaviour Plan also outlines the consequences for poor behaviour. These can range according to the level of behaviour and individual circumstances. We are committed to allowing students to act restoratively to repair relationships or to make things right. At every possible opportunity, we work with students to reflect, relearn, restore and reboot.
