While we firmly believe that QCE/QCIA attainment at the end of Year 12 is an incredible celebration of commitment and hard work, it is also necessary to recognise this important milestone as just the beginning for what life has in store for our young people. Our school has several programs and initiatives to support students to transition into their intended post-school option.
GROW Coaching
GROW Coaching provides every Year 12 student with a dedicated teacher (Coach) who supports them as they prepare for life beyond school. Coaches check in with students at least once each term to discuss their post-school plans, explore pathways and opportunities, and help them identify the steps they need to take to achieve their goals.
Next Step Day
Next Step Day is a formalised opportunity for Year 12 students, their parent/carer and their GROW Coach to meet in person and focus specifically on the student's transition beyond school. The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss post-school plans, explore education, training and employment pathways, identify available opportunities, and ensure students are well prepared to take their next steps after Year 12.
DBSHS Careers Day
Deception Bay State High School's annual Careers Day provides students with the opportunity to connect with employers, training providers, universities, and community organisations to explore the many pathways available after school.
Students can speak directly with industry representatives, ask questions, and learn about careers, apprenticeships, traineeships, vocational education, university courses, and employment opportunities.
Careers Day helps students to:
- explore career options and industries
- discover education and training opportunities
- make informed decisions about their future
- develop confidence speaking with employers and education providers
- build valuable industry connections.
Our Careers Day features a diverse range of exhibitors from local industry, government, defence, universities, TAFE, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, community organisations and employment services, giving students access to current information and valuable advice in one location.
Link & Launch Support
Each year, we are proud of our students who complete Year 12. Many of our students go on to further study, training and employment and ultimately, make positive contributions to our community.
Among each group of Year 12 students, there are some who need additional support to successfully transition to further study, training or work. The Link and Launch program is designed to help these young people decide what further study, training or employment might be best for them and to assist them in pursuing their chosen pathway. We are appreciative of Clontarf Beach State High School for their support in providing this service in our school.
Young people who are not in education, employment or training and who completed Year 12 in the previous two years are eligible to join the program. Older Year 12 graduates who may benefit from the program are also welcome to make contact. All eligible young people who have completed their senior studies can participate irrespective of where they went to school.
