At Deception Bay State High School, we are committed to helping students explore career pathways while completing their senior studies. School-based apprenticeships, traineeships and external courses allow students to gain real-world experience, develop industry skills and work towards nationally recognised qualifications while still at school.
School-based apprenticeships, traineeships and external courses are only available to students on the Work ready or Tertiary pathways.
Opportunities
Students may have the opportunity to participate in:
- School-based apprenticeships and traineeships
- TAFE and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) courses
- Industry-recognised certificate qualifications
- External training programs linked to future career pathways
Opportunities are promoted throughout the year via the Pathways Team, school communications, and industry partnerships.
Why get involved?
These programs provide students with the opportunity to:
- gain practical workplace experience
- develop valuable employability skills
- earn nationally recognised qualifications
- build confidence and independence
- strengthen pathways into employment, apprenticeships, further training, or university.
Getting started
Students interested in these opportunities are encouraged to speak with our school’s Industry Liaison Officer, either by visiting the Student Services Hub at a lunch break or via email at VET@deceptionbayshs.eq.edu.au.
We support students through every stage of the process, including identifying suitable opportunities, preparing résumés and applications, interview preparation, and connecting with employers and training providers.
Throughout their placement or course, students continue to receive support from the school to help them successfully balance their education with their workplace or training commitments.
