In Hospitality, students learn both the theoretical understandings and practical applications related to food, nutrition, relationships and living environments. While Hospitality is part of the HPE Faculty within the school, content in this subject is drawn from the key learning areas of Health and Physical Education and Technology.
Many of the learning experiences embedded in Hospitality are practical-based involving working with food in the kitchen.
While each unit is largely based around practical work, there is also a significant theoretical aspect, related to the practical activities. Students expand their knowledge around health, nutrition and the hospitality industry across Years 8 & 9.

Certificate III in Hospitality - This course is a vocational subject in which students are given the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised certificate through the school. The course is based around seven core competencies and five specialised electives, which will develop industry specific skills to assist in gaining employment in the field of hospitality. This includes approximately one week per year of Work Experience, and a regular rotation of coffee club services at the Bay Café, our very own school café open weekly as well as industry standard functions held at the school throughout the year.
The Hospitality Department permanently employs 2 certified Chefs who were so passionate about this industry, they went on to study teaching to allow them to pass on their skills and knowledge. The Department also employs a VET trainer to assist in delivering this certificate, who is still currently working in industry. This investment aims to ensure the program maintains its high standards and gives students real world insight into the Hospitality Industry.
